Product
Biodiesel
What is biodiesel?
After waste is pretreated and it undergoes several chemical reactions, it is turned into biodiesel, which is suitable for use in diesel internal combustion engines. This product is then mixed with diesel fossil fuel at different percentages which helps reduce emissions.
Biofuels originating from vegetable oil and waste animal fats don’t contain heavy materials and have significantly reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
BioArag produces biodiesel in accordance with European and American regulations, adhering to the UNE EN and ASTM D6751 standards.
Byproducts
Glycerin
Glycerol is obtained as a byproduct of the biodiesel production process during the transesterification stage. It has several different uses: in biogas plants, as an additive in construction, in the pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries and in the food and chemical sectors.
Biofertiliser
Potassium sulfate is also created as a byproduct during production of biodiesel. Its main use is to enrich soils for growing crops, nourishing them in such a way that leads to significant improvements in crop formation and yield.
BHO
A byproduct obtained during the distillation process of the biofuel, most commonly used in boilers and for maritime transport thanks to its high calorific value.
Advantages of producing biodiesel
Renewable energy
- Contributes to the circular economy and the decarbonisation of the economy, helping preserve the environment.
- Helps the country achieve energy independence.
Less CO2 in the atmosphere.
- Releases less CO2 emissions than diesel.
- Reduces the amount of pollutant gases in the atmosphere and helps combat the greenhouse effect.
Less pollution.
- Recovery of waste.
- Biodegradable and non-toxic.
Increased engine life.
- Engines last longer and are better lubricated. It lubricates the injectors and fuel pump and improves the gears.
The process
BDI Multi-Feedstock Technology
A sophisticated operation system in the production process which ensures high quality standards.
Multi-feedstock technology enables us to process a wide range of different types of raw materials.
Stages of the production process
- Pretreatment: eliminates impurities and water.
- Acid esterification: transforms the free fatty acids (FFA) that are found in fatty matter.
We have two acid esterification units which allow us to process raw materials with a low acidity as well as those with an acidity of up to 45%, giving us the possibility of processing 100% FFA mixtures with low acidity.
- Transesterification: the stage of the process in which the triglycerides are turned into methyl esters (biodiesel).
- Washing: purifies the product, removing any water, soap or impurities from the biodiesel.
- Distillation: ensures that the product that we produce fulfils all biodiesel quality standards established by the UNE EN 14214 standard.
